These paintings involve a union between oil painting and photography.
Each image is based on one or more of my original photographs, fragments of which are sometimes embedded within the painted surface. In the studio this becomes a sort of dialogue between the photographic image and itís painted reflection.
With this series Iím especially interested in translucency and reflection. The paintings include a good number of actual reflections, and I often notice how reflected images tend to be similar to the object they represent, but not quite the same.
Photography itself is a form of reflection, and painting shares that distinction, only without the camera Ė mirroring our surroundings, and also how we feel about the experience.
